Meat Tray Labels

Pre-Printed Meat Tray Labels for Butchers and Supermarkets

A meat tray label sells the cut. It tells the customer what they are buying, how fresh it is, where it came from and what to do with it. Vision Supply stocks 46 pre-printed meat tray labels covering every claim, cut and cooking method an Australian meat department uses.

Most rolls are $7 for 500 labels. That is under two cents a label. Pre-printed stock removes the printer from the equation entirely. Staff peel and stick.

Sizes and Roll Counts

The range runs across four footprints.

60x40mm is the standard meat tray label and covers most of the range at 500 per roll on a 25mm core. Starburst labels in this size run 1,000 per roll.

65x40mm covers the second half of the quality and value range at 500 per roll, with starbursts at 1,000 per roll.

65x45mm carries the cooking tips range and several quality claims at 500 per roll. The extra height gives room for the cooking method text.

65x35mm carries the Special label at 500 per roll.

A single roll of 500 typically runs a busy butcher department one to two weeks on a fast-moving line. Order the lines you use daily by the carton and the occasional ones by the roll.

Why Cooking Tips Labels Work

A cooking tips label is the cheapest merchandising tool in a meat department. It answers the question that stops a customer buying an unfamiliar cut.

Someone standing in front of a chuck steak who does not know what to do with it will walk to the mince. A casserole cooking tips label on the tray removes that hesitation. The same applies to stir fry strips, oven roasts, grill cuts and pan fry cuts.

Departments that run cooking tips labels on secondary cuts consistently shift more of them. It costs under two cents per tray.

Starburst Labels for Promotions

The four starburst colours give you a fast visual system. Pick one colour for price promotions, one for new lines and one for last-day stock. Train staff on the system once and customers learn it by repetition.

Starbursts run 1,000 per roll at $15, so the per-label cost is even lower than the standard range.

Applying Meat Tray Labels

Apply to a clean, dry tray film. Adhesive will not bond to a wet or frosted surface, and a label that lifts in the cabinet ends up on the floor.

Apply the label flat, not over the edge of the tray. A label wrapped over a rim will peel as soon as a customer picks the tray up.

Keep the label clear of the scale label and the barcode. Two labels overlapping means one of them cannot be read, and if it is the barcode the tray will not scan at the checkout.

Compliance Notes

Pre-printed claims still have to be true. Country of origin claims on meat sold in Australia are covered by the Australian Consumer Law and the Country of Origin Food Labelling Information Standard. A Prime Australian Beef label on imported product is a breach.

Free range, gluten free and grass fed claims all need substantiation. Keep your supplier documentation current and match your labels to what you are actually receiving.

Date marking and weight labelling come from your scale, not from these labels. See [scale labels for supermarkets](/collections/scale-labels-for-supermarkets) for that stock.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many labels per roll?

500 per roll for the standard range. 1,000 per roll for starbursts and carcass tags.

What core size are these?

25mm for the 500 per roll range. The carcass tag is on a 76mm core.

Do these need a printer?

No. Every label in this collection is pre-printed. Peel and apply.

Can I get a custom pre-printed meat label?

Yes. Send us your wording, size and quantity through [custom printed labels](/collections/custom-printed-labels).

What is the adhesive?

Permanent. It bonds to tray film, absorbent pads, cartons and bags.

Will these stick in a cool room?

Apply to a dry surface at room temperature where possible. Adhesive performance drops on cold, damp or frosted film.
